How to Make Money by Selling Your Photographs

There are a lot of  opportunities for  photographers to sell their  work  online and make some money. Many people search  the  internet for good quality photographs that they can use in their design  projects and so on, and they are also willing to pay. But when you submit it to any site put your photos under the scanner. So before submission, ensure that your photos have been edited lightly to  show off the  best  possible image  but don’t overboard with it either. You should give  your pictures a cleanup, and use the correct and lighting.

Online Place to sell your photographs

Sell your photos on

Decide on prices for your photos. Etsy is a place people go to for original photographic artwork so this is a good place for you to sell your pictures. You will soon get the hang of how you need to price your photos.

Sell your work on eBay.com

eBay is the undisputed best online marketplace. Sell your photos as frames, canvases or stock photos through this site. The online auctions will help decide the market value of your pictures.

Sell your images on stock photography sites

there are several stock photography sites on the web. But here’s my pick of the lot:

• clustershot.com
• istockphoto.com
• stockxpert.com
• snapvillage.com
• bigstockphoto.com
• fotolia.com
• shutterstock.com

Create products on zazzle.com

you can go to Zazzle and using your photos, make cool stuff like mugs, calendars, T-shirts, key-chains, and so on. Expect tiff competition here; go all out to ensure your photos are able to attract enough attention and beat your rivals.

Create products on cafepress.com

This site is more or less like Zazzle; the products you make on Zazzle can also be made for Cafepress. Just vary the products or images slightly so that they are not the exact same things you sell on Zazzle.

Create cool photo books on blurb.com

Make a photo book of your photos, and share it with others as a coffee table book. There are a surprising number of people interested in such books. It will be a fun project, and earn you some revenue with a single mouse click. It will also be like a portfolio of your work.

Sell your artwork in commercial spaces

Frame large sized photos and hang them in local places where you know there will be considerable foot traffic, like parks or lakesides. You could also talk to local restaurants and coffee shops and you will be amazed to see how many will actually welcome you; for a small cut, of course. You will have a bigger audience this way. It will also liven up their walls, and keep their clients happy. Quite a few of those clients are likely to be interested in buying the artwork for themselves. It’s a win-win situation.

Place your work on art and photo websites

plenty of websites allow you to display your photos online, and even undertake to frame and ship the purchase to the customer. This means you can concentrate on creating beautiful works of art rather than scratching your head about how you can handle the commercial part of it.

Hang your work at local art galleries

of course this is not as easy as it sounds. You may have to face rejection from some galleries; but it’s also possible that the first gallery owner you meet will love your work and agree to let you display your work there.

Get a website and start marketing your work online

If you can afford it, this is the best way. Have your own site, and show others you mean business. You could start off with a template portfolio site which is not as costly, like foliolink.com, pixpa.com and so on.

  1. Hi Andrea

I've not thought about selling photographs before but it's an interesting idea.

Stock photos sounds like a good way to go, although Etsy also sounds like something I may be interested in.

Thanks for a run down of how you can go about this.
